There are TWO movies, let me repeat that, TWO movies coming out in the first half of 2012 that are based off of the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
What the hell, Hollywood? You couldn’t come up with ANYTHING else? I mean, it’s a great story, don’t get me wrong, but you could stagger them a bit maybe. Have one release this year and another next year? But no, you had to have both movies come out in 2012 within less than 3 months of each other.
In March, Mirror, Mirror hits the big screen.
Here is the trailer.
In June, Snow White and the Huntsman hits theaters.
Here is the trailer.
After watching the trailers back to back, I suppose there is quite a difference between the two movies. Both have all star casts, but go about the tale differently… well for the most part differently.
Mirror, Mirror starring Julia Roberts as the evil queen, Lily Collins (Abduction, Priest, Blindside) as Snow White, Armie Hammer (best know for his role as the Winklevosses from The Social Network) as Prince Alcott, and Sean Bean of course as the King seems to be more of a comedy spin off of the classic fairy tale. After all, Nathan Lane is also a part of the cast as the queens servant. Roberts is scheming to take control of the kingdom. She banishes Snow White into the forest where she befriends a band of drwafs and fights to take back the kingdom in a light- hearted kind of way. I wasn’t sure about this movie when I first heard about it, but after watching the trailer and chuckling more than once, I think I’ll give it a go….outside of theaters of course.
Snow White and the Huntsman is a bit of a darker, more dramatic tale starring Charlize Theron as the evil queen. Our Snow White is non other than Kristen Stewart. Who would play a better scorned princesses with no joy? The girl who never looks happy, of course! Our huntsman is the very fine Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and the prince is played by the newer, fresher face of Sam Claflin (TV’s White Heat and Pillars of Earth). This movie brings about a star filled minor cast as well with Ian McShane, my British love – Nick Frost (known for his numerous roles with another of my British loves, Simon Pegg – Shawn of the Dead, Paul, Hot Fuzz), and Toby Jones (Julie from Your Highness, Tinker Sailor Solider Spy.
Here is the to-the-point synopsis from IMDB:
“In a twist to the fairy tale, the Huntsman ordered to take Snow White into the woods to be killed winds up becoming her protector and mentor in a quest to vanquish the Evil Queen.”
That is exactly what the trailer looks like. I’m not going to lie, it does look pretty bad ass and I’m all about ladies in armor fighting battles. So I’ll probably give this one a watch too… again outside of the theater.
Just thought you should know what is going on with Snow White. She’s apparently a pretty busy girl.
